The Annual Meeting of the Upstate New York Chapter of the AACE will again be held at The Sagamore on Lake George at the peak of the Fall foliage season, October 14th and 15th. As before, we will have informal sessions of member-presented interesting cases or clinically relevant research on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning with a Dinner Lecture on Friday night. The rest of the weekend is open for enjoying the beautiful grounds and lakeside trails of the resort or local environs. A limited number of rooms have been reserved for Friday and Saturday nights in The Lodges at $205 (or $300 for a suite overlooking the lake) but other accommodations can be made in the Hotel at the group rate if special needs exist. I suggest making your reservations as early as possible, if interested, and specify UNYAACE for the group rates. The number is 800-358-3585, and please explore their website, www.thesagamore.com, for more information about this casually elegant and family-friendly resort.

There is no fee for physicians for this meeting, including dinner on Friday night, but you must pre-register and are encouraged to give an informal fifteen to twenty minute presentation of a case or topic that you have investigated. (Charges for your room and guests at the Friday dinner will be billed to you directly by The Sagamore.) A Program with the topics to be discussed and specific times will be available on this website, and mailed to all registrants, closer to the time of the meeting. Like last year there will be no CME credits given, just a relaxed exchange of ideas, information and anecdotes. You may register with this year’s Program Chair, Marya Gendzielewski, at drmarya@aol.com or call her at (315) 422-4983.

October

The annual Chapter meeting was held October 15th & 16th at The Sagamore on Lake George with a new format that was enjoyed by all. Perfect for the setting, informal roundtable discussions with modest PowerPoint presentations by the attendees comprised the Friday afternoon and Saturday morning sessions. Friday evening, there was a reception and dinner at the Hotel for attendees and families, many of whom stayed over until Sunday to further enjoy the beautiful grounds of this resort and surrounding Adirondack community.

A few snapshots are posted which I hope will entice any other AACE members, or potential members, to join us next year. The attendees voted unanimously to keep everything the same for next year, including time, place and format, so keep October 14-15, 2005, open! The agenda went pretty much as advertised (see the archived Meeting announcement), and print copies of most speakers’ presentations are available, by contacting the Chairman, for any non-attendees who might be interested.

May

At the recent AACE Annual Meeting in Boston MA, approximately twenty of our members participated in the meetings and workshops, further details of which will be on the AACE website shortly.

During the American College of Endocrinology Convocation on May 1st, Fellowships were granted to Dr. Ruth Weinstock of Syracuse and Dr. Paresh Dandona of Buffalo, who may now add the suffix “F.A.C.E.” to their titles.
Dr. Arnold Moses of Syracuse received one of the three Distinction in Clinical Endocrinology awards bestowed by the College this year. Congratulations to all of you!

There appears to be renewed interest in resuming the UNY AACE Annual Meeting. The venue in the past has been a weekend meeting at one of
our many resort locations in upstate NY, including lectures/discussions all or part of the day on Saturday +/- Sunday with a Dinner Lecture on Saturday. Anyone interested in being on a steering committee for our next meeting (which generally requires a lead time of six months or more) should contact the Chapter Chairman as soon as possible. Suggestions for topics are also welcome, if you are interested in coming, even if you cannot assist with the arrangements at this time.
